History of Delta Tau

Sigma Nu Delta Tau Chapter

A Century of History, Heritage & Excellence

Thank you for celebrating 100 years of Delta Tau with us!
Here is to 100 more!

This is an exciting time for Sigma Nu as we have now celebrated over 100 years of the Delta Tau Chapter at Oregon State University!

We are very excited for the honor to celebrate a century of history, heritage, and excellence with our friends, family, and Alumni. Our Centennial and Re-Chartering event would not have been possible if it were not for the support and sacrifice of our gracious families and friends!

On April 14th, 1917

A group of men at Oregon Agricultural College, calling themselves Gamma Upsilon, petitioned Sigma Nu Fraternity for a Charter to become a Sigma Nu Chapter. The group of 14 men were granted their request and began a dynasty of Sigma Nu at Oregon State University.

On February 28th, 2015

Thirty-seven men, recruited to Re-Colonize the Delta Tau Chapter of Sigma Nu, participated in their first Candidate Ceremony. This first step would mark the start of the hard work and effort to come in order to restart a dormant Chapter. Once Candidates, these men would begin their walk along the road to Knighthood and Honor.

Over the next two years, these men would grow in numbers and participate in the Greek Life community at Oregon State University. Awards were achieved, academics excelled, Brotherhood was built strong, and the men authored a strengthened sense of what it was to be called a Delta Tau.

On July 1st, 2016

By a contentious vote among Alumni and the Housing Corporation, the Colony Candidates were granted permission to move into the Delta Tau Chapter House in our historic home located at 143 NW 10th Street in Corvallis, OR.

Excited to move back home, the undergraduates and Alumni worked tirelessly for three days during an Alumni & Colony Work Weekend to clean up and restore the home to its former glory. New landscaping was introduced, a fresh coat of paint put on the exterior and interior, refinished hardwood floors, new kitchen floors, a refinished front door, among others, were the tasks completed by the work of dedicated Sigma Nu’s and family.

Following this weekend, the undergraduates continued to clean and work on the Chapter house until the Fall term started in September.

On May 20th, 2017

Thirty-six Candidates initiated into the Legion of Honor. Over 30 Alumni attended and assisted in the Initiation of the Candidates, at the first initiation ceremony of the Delta Tau Chapter since 2010.

Celebrating not only their initiation, but a re-chartering of the Chapter, and also celebrating 100 years of the Chapter’s existence; the new initiates welcomed Alumni, friends, and family to join in on the fun.

Graced by the Regent of Sigma Nu, Lee Perrett, the Chapter hosted a banquet at Springhill Golf Club to celebrate the occasion, to acknowledge the effort and excellence put in by the undergraduates over the last two years, and to commemorate a century of Brotherhood.

Into the Future

The Initiates, current Candidates, and future Candidates will always strive to uphold the values of Love, Honor, and Truth in all acts and deeds. The Chapter will promote and achieve the attainment of the highest level of excellence awarded to a Sigma Nu Chapter, a Rock Chapter status. This prestigious Honor will further prove that these Gentlemen genuinely embody the values of a Knight, and are worthy of calling themselves Delta Tau’s.

In everything we do, the Gentlemen of Sigma Nu strive to excel in all our endeavors and seek the pursuit of excellence. As a Brotherhood, we dedicate ourselves to service, philanthropy, honor, and our academics in order to enrich the lives of those we help and to foster personal growth.

We live our vision each day and challenge the status quo. We are committed to our values, and work to build everlasting ties of friendship in the hope that our service positively impacts our surrounding community. This dedication is what has allowed us to successfully re-charter our fraternity and become Knights in the Legion of Honor.

The Delta Tau Chapter of Sigma Nu, at Oregon State University, will strive to uphold the values of Love, Honor, and Truth while maintaining an environment of inclusivity and diversity.

Our passion for these values will enable members to positively impact the surrounding community. As members, we dedicate ourselves to these values in order to become true gentlemen who challenge the status quo.

The Chapter will relentlessly pursue excellence while never compromising our values.
